Prashant Sharma serves as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Otago. He completed his Fellowship in General Surgery in 2012 in Christchurch, New Zealand, followed by subspeciality colorectal training through CSSANZ. His postgraduate education included fellowships at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide and Western Hospital in Melbourne.

His clinical expertise centers on laparoscopic abdominal surgery and transanal minimally invasive techniques, including rectal resection procedures. Additional areas of focus include laparoscopic hernia repair and anorectal conditions such as fistulas, abscesses, and hemorrhoids. He is currently pursuing a Masters degree with research concentrated on diverticular disease and diverticulitis.

His current positions include Consultant roles at Christchurch Hospital, Southern Cross Hospital, and St George's Hospital, along with his academic appointment at the University of Otago Medical School.
